IMPLANTOLOGY

   Implantology is used to:

  • restore comfort and stability to patients with removable prosthesis
  • replace one or more missing teeth without having to use neighbouring teeth as support affecting the neighbouring teeth.

Dental implants have been around since about 1950. At this time, scientists discovered that titanium could be bonded to bony tissue, a phenomenon known as osteo-integration. They then developed a technique that involved inserting one or more titanium implants into the bone. At that time, the chances of success were 85% in the upper jaw and 90% for the lower jaw.

Today, with more advanced research and surgical techniques, they are now successful in 97% of cases. Obviously, precautions must be taken pre-surgery, including a clinical and radiological examination, a check-up, blood tests, pre- and post-operative medication, etc. It is also important to say that implants can be inserted at any age.

Dr. Dessureault has graduated from the Carl Mitch Institute in Implantology and has been practising this technique since 1994.
